contact the artistartist statementI moved from sculpture back to painting, from watercolor back to oil. These changes came about because of aging, access, money, support and time needs. Oil painting became safer over the years. It also extends the process and allows time to adjust the image. In the 70’s various trends were taught in Universities, none of which were based on realism. Everybody had to figure that one out for themselves. Realism was taboo. Now that I am retired from teaching (art and special ed), I have time, income , not so much energy, and enough perspective to not care about trends. With God’s help and “a little help from my friends” I have been able to continue to use the properties of oil painting to advantage. If I get in trouble with a work I can add another layer without trashing all of what led up to the point of dissatisfaction. I may do abstracts in future if my , especially if macular degeneration messes with my central vision. As for the present, I will try to do what I can and leave the rest to the Almighty. professional activitypublications
